Dr Daniel Hanus is a renowned aeronautical professional, researcher, and educator. He is an expert in aircraft propulsion, aircraft turbine engines, energy machines, and equipment. He was awarded the prestigious membership - AIAA Associate Fellowship at American Institute of Aeronautics and Aerospace.

Mr Hanus is the President of the Aeronautical Society of the Czech Republic, the President of the Czech Association of Mechanical Engineers, the Vice-President of the Czech National Committee of FEANI, was a member of FEANI Executive Board, and he is the President of the Czech Association of Scientific and Technical Societies (and was in several election periods). He is a delegate of the Czech Technical University in Prague at the executive board of PEGASUS Network – the network of excellence of the technical aeronautical and space universities of the European Union. He is also a national member of the executive board of the international scientific society ISABE for aircraft engines.

Throughout his professional carrier, he has taken as a leader of research teams in the fields of aeronautical and space research, the industrial applications of sophisticated and innovative technologies within domestic and foreign grant projects an active part in scientific research and development.

Dr Hanus was the Head of the Institute of Air Transport at the Faculty of Transportation Sciences of the Czech Technical University in Prague between 2007-2014. Since then he has lectured there and led graduate and postgraduate students.

In 1991 he was delegated by the President of the French Region Midi Pyrénées to the position of the official Czechoslovakia representative and later till 1995 the Czech Republic representative. In 1992 and 1993 he was invited as “an Invited Professor” to the French Engineering School of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Toulouse, ENSAE. During his professional career he participated in a number of professional visits giving invited lectures, he took part in various international conferences abroad (in Norway, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Thailand, USA, Canada, and China).

His expertise and life-long professional services to aeronautical engineering and sciences were acknowledged by the highest awards of a number of professional bodies, as well as of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Czech Air Force. He was awarded various commemorative plaques and medals as a recognition of his contribution to cooperation between engineering associations and international societies.

Areas of the main scientific interest: Synthesis and biological and physicochemical evaluation of steroids and their conjugates, steroidal and terpene lactones, alkaloids, brassinosteroids, carbohydrate and their conjugates, ion channel modifiers, synthesis of natural products with a fluorescent label for bioimaging, targeting of the biologically active compound by peptide vectors, i.a.

Dr Trojan is a mechanical engineer in the field of chemical apparatus and machine construction and the design of production technological lines. As an advanced engineer, he worked in the machinery company and later as a researcher and professor at the Department of Machines and Equipment for Chemical, Food, and Processing Industry of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. He dealt with problems of designing apparatus and technological units, methodology of experimental works, and chemical engineering solving hydromechanical and diffusion separation processes and equipment. At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, he also held the position of Scientific Secretary.

Dr. Trojan is the author of a set of research reports, textbooks, and articles in technical-scientific journals. He collaborated with a number of research institutions and industrial companies (mechanical, chemical, food, and gas production) by solving technological tasks. He is the holder of several patents in the field of mechanical and chemical engineering.

Dr. Trojan was Chairman of the Czech Mechanical Engineering Society, President of the Czech Association of Scientific and Technical Societies and in the latter, he carried out various positions within the Board of Directors and various technical committees. Since 1995 he has been President of the Czech National Committee for FEANI and for some time he was engaged in the area of Continuing Professional Development of Engineers within the European Committee for FEANI. He is a member of the other societies of CSVTS – Czech Society of Chemical Engineering, Czech Chemical Society, Biotechnological Society, and the Association of Mechanical Engineers. As the authorized engineer for the building of technological equipment, he is a member of the Czech Chamber of Accredited Engineers and Technicians.

Since the year 1990, he has taken part in the public life of the society – as the member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and as the member of the Parliament of Prague and of the Congress of the Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and later as the advisor of the minister for regional development and the advisor of the prime minister of the Czech Government. He also worked as a member of some statutory authorities of joint-stock companies: machinery – ZVU Hradec Kralove (machinery), Prague Public Transport Company, Prague Electricity Company, Czech Energetic Company ČEZ Group, Transport Technical College in Prague. He is a member of the supervisory board of the University of Hradec Kralove. Dr. Trojan ended active cooperation at the WEC 2023 conference as 12/31/2022. He still remains an external consultant.

Areas of the main scientific interest: measurement technique, sensors technique, electrotechnics, electronics, microprocessor and control systems, automation, biomechanics, sensors and transducers for automation, robotics, medicine and biomechanics, tactile transducers and methods of tactile pattern recognition.
Prof. Volf led research projects within various grants of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and technical universities. He is a member of the editorial board of the book collection “Scientists, Inventors and Businessmen in Czech Lands”.

Results: The most important are: a device Plantograf - one of the world's leading measuring instruments for measuring the pressure distribution between the transducer and the object, in this case, the pressure distribution on the sole. Development and production of the transducer for measuring the pressure distribution between the metatarsal and the upper of the shoe have been going on now.
Emergency detector and transducers, protector against theft of objects under the trade names VOLMAT 1550 and VOLMAT 55.
An artificial hand for a robot, sensor-based on properties of conductive rubber and piezo effect, two tactile transducers, successfully tested at a rehabilitation department of Faculty hospital in Košice in 1995, methods of classification of tactile pattern, classification of subjects gripped by robots and indication of their slip, mobile measuring of agricultural machines component, arrangement for wireless remote control machine for SHD Most, development and production of microprocessor monitoring arrangement for water borehole (waterworks Hostin), transducer for gripping force and pattern recognition for TU Bratislava.

Publications: 110 articles in national journals or conferences, 160 articles in international journals or conferences, 10 texts of lecture, 50 research reports, 34 patents and patent registrations, 1 European patent, 1 Russian and 1 Slovak, invitations to lecture at home and abroad (1 for NASA Houston), 58 citations in WoS, 81 in SCOPUS, 20 domestic, h-index 4 in SCOPUS, h-index 2 in WoS.

Awards: various awards, the most precious are for a device Plantograf (types from V05 – V016): Innovation of the Year Award Award (1998), Golden and Silver medals from international trade fairs of innovations and investigations in various countries in the world from IFIA (International Federation of Inventors Associations) and the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic, Visionary of the Year award (2015), Honorary Visionary (2016), and so on; the Czech Technical University in Prague Award for the best research team (2002 -2005) and many more.
